Customer Reviews: Leg Extension & Leg Curl Bench Attachment

Rated 4.12 out of 5 stars based on 17 customer reviews.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Quick to set up with either the cable or plate options. Cable has the better force curve as bands are needed with the plate option to keep tension at/near lockout. It’s pretty big as well. Also wish the cable option had a retractor. Pain rolling it up after each use.

Works so smooth and perfect exactly what I was looking for to finish off my home gym for a good leg workout… only downfall takes a little bit of getting used to setting it up other than that amazing

Great for what it is. Had to make slight modification.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Overall satisfied, good quality and works well as an attachment. Other people mentioned that they wish they had more clearance especially for doing leg curls. I did what other people recommended and rigged it with a couple hockey pucks and Velcro pads. Works well with a little modification but at this price you probably shouldn’t have to modify it.

Overall, Really Amazing

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Pros:
- Build quality is fantastic
- Works great with the Ares 2.0
- Initial build is really easy and setting it up with the bench is quick and simple.
- Let extensions and curls feel great. Just be warned that it will humble you quickly, especially when attached to cables

Cons/Opportunities:
- As other reviews have mentioned, the starting position can be a little uncomfortable depending on your height, especially for leg curls. Felt like I was hyper-extending my knees. I glued some magnets to a few different thicknesses of wood (3/4" to 1.5") so I can change out and find the position that feels better for my wife and I. Seems like an opportunity for Rep to provide some spacer blocks with the unit, or a way to adjust the stopper to accommodate different people. Not a big deal overall, but it could be a low cost way for Rep to provide a lot of value for customers.
- There is also a lot of mentioning of the size of the unit in reviews. Yes, it's not small, but it's really not that bad for what it is. One thing that I think could help is if there was a way to collapse the handles when not in use. That would help a lot, as I tend to run into those when walking by it. Recommendation for a future version.

Overall:
I have enjoyed using this over the past month or two. It's is easy to nitpick on all the details compared to other leg extension machines and attachments, but the bottom line is that it works exceptionally well for what it is intended to do. In the time I've used...

Well built but useless

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars

You will spend over 500$ and it does NOT come with the attachment pieces to connect it to your bench. You need to buy that separately in order to attach this to your bench. It’s like apple selling an iPhone with no way to charge the phone. Very frustrating that they make customers wait months for it to arrive only to get it and not be able to use it until you order the attachment piece. Which is ALSO only a pre-order item and you will need to wait months again for it to arrive… order this attachment if you’d like to spend over 500$ for a piece of metal that you will not be able to use for 5 months.

Great attachment

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I wanted this because I wanted something more than just squats and lunges for my home gym for leg days. The leg extension is great. Only complaints is sharpness where my hamstrings sits underneath a bit but a little shift and I'm fine. The other is it starts a bit too far back for my legs where its uncomfortable getting in and getting out. I do love the attachment though.

Secondly, the leg curl is great with the cable attachment. Consistent contraction throughout. Kind of wonky getting into it and out of it at the angle needed but once in, feels great. Some complain about the hyperextension of their knee but that's not a problem for me at all thankfully. My wife complains about the leg curl with her knee though. Guess it just depends on the person.

Overall, I love it being in my home gym and can finally progress my legs.

Oh yeah, the leg curl at even 15lbs is HEAVY! Lol. Maybe my hamstrings are just weak but thankfully I can finally build them up!

I enjoy using this bench attachment

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I have just began to exercise again in my mid-fifties. This machine, to me, feels like the leg developers I used in my youth. Back in the days when I paid for Gym Memberships. I currently do not own a cable machine. I have only one small room to dedicate for gym equipment. This leg developer attached to my AB 5300 Bench fits the bill for my situation. I have collected plenty of Olympic Plates throughout my years. So, my plates and the bands I purchased with this developer will get the job done. The bands greatly help to have tension throughout the full motion.

The only real draw back is the storage of this Leg Developer when not in use. But, I will make it work.

The fit and finish is great.
They should however add a low profile flat hand knob to repace the 6mm screw that allows removal of the top rollers. The top rollers need to be easily removed when doing leg extensions. When I lay horizontal on the bench and perform leg extensions for a better stretch. The Top roller when I lay flat tends to hit my Quads. A low profile hand knob would make removal of the top roller slide assembly easier. It is not a major problem to find a 6mm hex to unscrew it enough to clear it for removal. But a low profile hand knob would be a good update.

Overal impressions. This is an excellent, well designed, stable Bench-attachment.. And so far, I enjoy using it in my small space.

Half Awesome

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Preordered this in November, and have now had it since the beginning of January. For leg extensions I love it - no complaints whatsoever and it’s great to be able to do this exercise at home without a dedicated machine.

Leg curls are a different story. Once in position, it’s basically hyper extending my knees. Very painful and I wish it could be adjusted. Seeing the other reviews I see I’m not alone in this. Maybe the block of wood trick is the way to go, but at $550 it’s a huge bummer. I’m 6’1” 200lbs.

Pretty bulky, but that’s ok as it’s robust. Build quality a little lacking in some areas (mostly sharp areas and a gap in a weld that likely won’t be an issue, it just bugs me).

Overbuilt

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I ordered the Leg Extension and Leg Curl to work with my AB-5000. I am still waiting on the attachment to be able to use it with by lat pull / low row cable system with my rack. So, I cannot comment on how it works with the cable attachment, yet. However, the design really works well to target the quads and hamstrings. They appear to have really gotten the strength curve correct. I like some of the features that they have put in like the magnetized pin to start / stop the weights. That was always an issue on previous bench leg ext / curl machines I have used in the past.
My only complaint is that it is overbuilt... Some may say this isn't a negative, but for me it is. I have an extremely small area to work in. Because it is so heavy and so large, it is extremely cumbersome to move around and move into place. It does have wheels to help maneuver it, but when there is little space available, the wheels are much less helpful. It is built very well. Very well designed. The pads are all sturdy, yet comfortable. I just feel that they could have reduced the weight by nearly half!! I don't think that there are any home based lifters who need to use 500+ pounds on the leg ext / curl. Because of the way it attaches to the bench, the lifter's bodyweight is supported by the bench, so that isn't a factor.
Great machine, but needs to be much lighter on the next version.

Leg attachment

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Very well engineered. Resistance curve is amazing. The ability to use bands with weights is a game changer. The leg curl is a bit too heavy for novice trainers. The only other critique is that the leg roller pad is too restrictive for use as a decline bench.

Mostly Good

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I use this with bands and plates and for leg extensions it feels good. I agree there are some travel issues but nothing that is a big deal to me. Hamstring curls is where my 4 star comes in. I wish there was thicker pads to use for hamstrings so you could get a bigger stretch, or maybe be able to flip the top extension upside down. Right now I just use a foam pad under my quads to raise them up. Still happy with my purchase though

If you have a gut or are bigger, beware

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Because of my nice gut, I can’t do a full leg extension. The pads for the hamstring curl pound into my gut/chest without being able to get a full rep. I unscrewed the pads for curls and I’m able to get a full extension in, but that kind of defeats the whole purpose. It also now adds a failure point of the threads stripping from repeated attaching/detaching, along with now adding time to set up. The bearing at the pivot is very smooth though and the starting position is perfect. If you’re a normal person, I’m sure it’s a great experience.

Received Today 1/12/26 Took about an hour to Put together by myself, everything was straight forward and easy peezy. I've used it for lying Hamstring curl and I couldn't be more happy with how smooth it feels, Currently in between Squats sets writing this review and I can't wait for some leg extensions next!

Smooth Operation

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

It has a smooth operation, easy to install and move around, The optional cable attachment works good, but not needed if you don't have a cable machine. I only have two complaints. 1. There is not an adjustment to limit the travel back on the leg extension, I'm 5'10" and my legs don't go back that far, so I added a block of wood to make it easier for me. The 2nd is the handles are to far back for me to hold on to, I hold on the pads. I think if I taller people would not have any issues.

Legs On Fire

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

This unit is well built and Sturdy! Pairs up great to my Night Hawk. We are using the plate system with two bands to give a great uniform resistance! Hopefully we will get a cable system in the future to give that a try. REP makes a solid easy to put together product.
